First Book Slam book is a lovely Christmas gift

Do you have a book-reading wife?

Sister? Girlfriend? Daughter?

Brother?

Book Slam have published their first book and it makes  a classy Xmas gift.

If you don’t live in London, you might not know about Book Slam, the monthly literary nightclub that I’ve loved ever since the first time I went to a night at Acklam Road. It’s now housed at a big posh community centre called The Tabernacle in Ladbroke Grove

I\’ve been twice with my wife Jan and three times with my daughter Caroline, but mostly I go on my own and listen closely to the authors reading from their new books. I’ve learned a lot that’s influenced my own writing, discovered some fantastic authors, and bought some wonderful novels.

I’ve seen   David Nicholls, DBC Pierre, Dave   Eggers, Hanif Kureishi, William Boyd twice, Zadie Smith, Roger Robinson, Roger McGough, Will Self twice, Salena Godden twice, Doc Brown and many other novelists, poets, singers and groups.

Last week David Nicholls read from One Day for the last time ever, and the hilarious Sophie Woolley read her story from the book, which is called One For The Trouble – Book Slam Volume One.

It’s a Limited Edition of 1,500 beautifully-bound hardbacks.

Each of the 1,500 books is numbered and signed by all of the authors whose stories and poems it contains. It’s a lovely gift for your wife, sister, girlfriend, mate, parent, whoever.

One For The Trouble costs   £30.

It’s also available as an eBook for £1.99

And as an Audiobook for £2.99

This item is  NOT available from all good quality bookshops.

One For The Trouble is only available from Waterstones Notting Hill Gate.

Clearly, I should have posted this piece a week ago because the UK deadline for Christmas delivery is Tuesday, December 13 – and the Western European deadline is today.
