I was mightily impressed with Fabianski yesterday in what you rightly described as a big game for him – he showed me 3 or 4 things that I have never seen Manuel do, thus have frustrated me no end when he has failed to.
1. Make saves at crucial stages – the two from Silva (in the first minute and at 1-0) were top, top class and crucial to the team’s psyche.
2. Make difficult saves look easy because of positional sense – not make easy saves look difficult as Manuel almost always does.
3. When coming for crosses, making a decision early to come or stay / to punch or catch and living with that decision. 3 or 4 occasions in the past two weeks that he has got it right.
4. Continuing to play when the game is won rather than letting in soft goals. He made two really good saves late on at 2-0 and 3-0.
If he continues like this, there will be no need to buy in January and the effect on our defence will be tangible.
