Years ago I had a sports editor on The Scotsman called George Barton.
When I phoned in a correction George would gruffly admonish me.
He would say, “Get it right first time!”
HE WAS RIGHT.
My job was to get it right first time.
George had plenty to worry about without correcting my mistakes.
I should have learned to get it right first time by now.
I now discover that :
Teams in the Champions League Qualifying Rounds have an eligibility deadline of August 7th.
Teams in the Group Stages have a deadline of midday on September 1st.
So Chelsea’s deadline is August 7th.
And Arsenal’s is September 1st.
It used to be August 31st.
But now it is September 1st.
I made a big mistake.
