BURNLEY, eh ?
When I was at school in Stevenage I was a Burnley fan. The first league game I ever saw was Arsenal v Burnley when Mel Charles scored two goals in a 2-2 draw. It was the first game of the season in 1961 and my dad drove us to Cockfosters and we got the tube from there to Highbury. Ray Pointer was marked out of the game by Lawrie Brown, a defender Arsenal bought from Northampton, I seem to remember.
I can’t remember seeing Arsenal v Burnley again after that but I must have done, sometime in the Seventies. But I can remember seeing Spurs v Burnley.
