Bergkamp and ANR joined Arsenal in 1995

From Ian Jones:

Congratulations on your 17th anniversary, Myles !

I did not realise that ANR started in 1995, the year in which there was a very significant event in Arsenal’s rich history !

Dennis Bergkamp joined the club .

His presence attracted some other very gifted players and the club made considerable progress. Dennis Bergkamp gave me so much pleasure.

From Kelvin Au

WOW – Happy 17th Birthday!

Amazing how long I’ve been an Arsenal fan, and how long I’ve been reading your site.

You’re the first football site I go to, before Newsnow, Soccernet .. or any other site.

Cheers Myles – I don’t always agree with you, but at least you have an honest fan’s opinion.

You don’t admit it, but you’re a fan…

From Neil Dorgan :

17 Years old…WOW & Congrats, Myles.

I started reading this blog in the summer of 2006.

I read a couple of articles and then went and bought your book.

It was Ken Early and Off The Ball that introduced me to you.

It is the first internet page I check EVERY single day. It has been a real pleasure reading your views. Very lately I started writing my own little blog and I never realised the time that needs to be put in to produce anything relevant.I have just been posting first drafts as the thought of going over and correcting what I have already written after spending an hour or two at it is depressing.

That\’s why I have so much respect for what you do – great concise pieces on a consistent basis.

You give critical insights that give me inspiration and you have a realism that most fans lack.

Have a great bank holiday weekend – I am off up to Stoke City.

Myles says :

CLARIFATION : I\’ve only done ANR for 14 years.

Maybe Ian Grant posted some stuff I  faxed him  before that.

I went online in May 1998, just before the World Cup, and started writing on the internet within days. It seemed the obvious thing to do and came naturally, without thought, like many of my articles.

Because Arsenal had just won a thrilling Double, which excited Ian Grant, he suggested that we do the World Cup and I  figured : I\’m going to watch the World Cup anyway,   I\’ll talk about it with my friends, so why not just type out what I say to my friends and share that with anyone who is interested?

I’d forgotten that I blogged France ’98 before I started posting on Arsenal.

When I started it was 5O% sharing and 50% therapy, getting things off my chest

Right now, I\’d like to thank everyone who has written to us recently, especially the readers whose unpublished letters are just as interesting as those I put up.

The selection is often done late at night and is, I admit, rather random.

I\’d also like to thank a regular reader who has asked me not to publish what he’s written today. But I’ll repeat two lines he claims I wrote long ago:

Mourinho is a daring man who plays cautious football. Wenger is a cautious man who plays daring football

I don\’t remember writing that. But it sounds like me.
