Arsene Wenger interview in The Observer

Our newspapers are now worse than they’ve ever been in my lifetime.

And of course the tabloids have been ridiculous for years.

On Friday The Sun published an Arsene Wenger ‘exclusive’ by nicking an interview Philippe Auclair did for France Football. The translation was misleading and, in two instances, downright dishonest. At least the Evening Standard  had an accurate version of what Wenger had said and quoted the source.

The Observer will reprint the whole interview on Sunday.

On Gilberto, I was too vague when I talked about “a friend of a friend”. My friend is a football reporter and his friend is a football reporter. They work together. His friend spoke to Gilberto. I hope that clarification helps.

Arsenal have become reliable so I’ve started betting on them for the first time in two years. Last week I did a double with Arsenal half time / full time and Hertha Berlin to be more than 2.5 goals. Most games in the Bundesliga are more than 2.5 goals and Hertha won 3-1.

Dean Ashton and Craig Bellamy will play today but I’m sure Arsenal will beat West Ham. Hleb is back, Eduardo injured. Ashton is on form and his heading ability may be vital for England when they play on that plastic pitch in Moscow on Wednesday October 17.

My promised piece about the Big Four’s prospects has not been written yet. With the so-called Champions League coming back on Tuesday, next Friday looks like be the  ideal moment to publish that one.
Enjoy your weekend, wherever you are.

PS When ANR was re-designed we put a Reviews section on our home page. That was so I could review books from time to time.  I’ve read some interesting books and I will review a couple, I hope. In the meantime, there are some music pieces if you click on Reviews.
