It’s a beautiful sunny day in North London.
And Arsenal seems remote today, almost abstract.
Their next game is a CLQ : Champions League qualifier.
We don’t know who Arsenal will play.
It’s a big game because it’s a big money game
Football matches stop in June and July, pretty much.
So what to write on ANR?
I’ve said a lot in recent weeks.
I’ve said plenty
Too much, if you read my inbox.
Some readers think I should shut up.
To me, June and July are agent months. Most of the stories come from agents who are looking for transfers, playing games, trying to create auctions which will profit them.
Gooners are hoping Wenger will sign three experienced players. But he does’t have much money.
What am I going to write about in June and July? Well, I’ve got some punchy pieces that I wrote but didn’t use. I’ve got some old ideas that I haven’t written yet. And there are some new ideas that I’m chewing over.
I’ve got an idea that I might use on Monday. So I’ll think about that and whether to write it.
Remember : That CLQ game is mega.
If a club is short of money, qualifying for the Champions League is crucial. So Wenger’s signings should be geared to that game.
Last season they played Dutch club FC Twente on August 13 and 27. They beat Twente by 2-0, when Ramsey started, and by 4-0, when Nasri started and scored. But that 6-0 victory does not mean Arsenal will inevitably cruise through two CLQ legs again next season.
Have a fun weekend, Gooners, wherever you are.
