There’s a great table in the Guardian on points won/pounds spent, prior to yesterday’s matches.
Arsenal would be expected to be near the top.
But they are ninth with 0.47pts/millions spent on the squad. Blackpool are top, followed by Bolton.
Last weekend’s Arsenal squad cost £55.7m compared to Tottenham’s £144.2m – a difference of nearly £90m.
Tottenham are second from bottom in the pts/m table with 0.16.
Man City (£241m); Liverpool (£102.5m) Chelsea (£148.4m) and Man U (£120.6m) – the teams, apart from Liverpool and including Spurs, occupying five of the top six places in the Premier League Table, are bottom of the value league.
What is significant is that there’s nearly a £50m gap between the lowest of these, Liverpool and Arsenal, implying Arsenal are punching well above their weight.
Arsenal’s squad spending is in a group including Sunderland (£54.5m); Everton (£49.75m); Aston Villa (£45.25m); Stoke (£36.25m) and Fulham (£36.25m).
The Financial Fair Play Regulations will effect some radical changes, with Arsenal well placed given turnover and youth development policies.
Even so Arsene, there’s no excuse not to buy that goalkeeper and commanding centre back in the window. There’s more than enough slack.
