Arsenal AGM is uneventful

By Myles Palmer

Arsene Wenger was not at the AGM today.

Hill-Wood said that the manager had not seen some of his players for two weeks. It was more important that he was with the team on a Friday, preparing for tomorrow’s game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The AGM is normally on a Thursday.

This year’s questions were the usual stuff.

When will we get the £4 million Real Madrid still owe us for Anelka?

Within the next seven days, said the Chairman.

Why has Wenger not signed his contract?

We believe he will sign it and we can’t say any more than that. You can’t hold a pistol to someone’s head.

The board were told that they under-estimated the strength of opposition to Ashburton Grove.

The vote by shareholders approving a holding company is known as a Scheme of Arrangement and took place before the AGM.

The resolution was passed by a majority of the shareholders present with 39,213 votes in favour and 37 votes cast against.

I did not go to the AGM this year but it sounds as if I didn’t miss much.

My postman Paul gave me two letters today and said,”Your book’s coming out today, isn’t it?”

How the hell could he know that?

Because he has a mate who is an Arsenal fan.

Paul told me he is a guitarist and also knew that I’d once written a book about Mark Knopfler.

He said he is a Spurs fan so I gave him a copy of What’s the Story? Boring Glory, the paperback I co-wrote with Mark Jacob. He was chuffed with that.

Tomorrow I’m at Stamford Bridge.

Sunday morning I’m on LBC with Brian Hayes at 11.40.

This broadcasting lark takes a lot of concentration, I think.

Or maybe a lot of relaxation. If I’m relaxed I will just talk naturally and there is always a chance that I will say something interesting.

I did OK with Richard Kaufman on Talksport on Tuesday but that may have been a fluke….
