Are you in two minds about Fabregas?

From Duck :Fabregas

If Cesc was sold for 33m euros, that would be very near Arsenal’s first option buy-back value at 25m GBP.

Will he be returning to Arsenal despite the reported Arsenal snub and that he will be replacing Frank Lampard in Chelsea? This is a nobrainer buy-back for Arsene.

He’s crazy to miss out on bringing back Fabregas.

From Dan:the Prodigal Son

Hey Myles,

How’s it going?

I hope all is good, I have been a reader for many years and have always enjoyed your work. You have also been kind enough to post my contributions on more than one occasion. Thank you.

However, sadly I am writing to you today following all the speculation that Cesc Fabregas is signing for Chelsea. Although nothing has been ‘officially’ confirmed, there is no smoke without fire as we all know and following reports from the BBC it seems more and more likely by the hour.

Firstly, as credible a source as BBC normally is they do not cite that they have spoken directly to Arsenal or had a statement from them regarding the issue however the same cannot be said for media manipulators Barcelona.

I’m convinced that following Gazidis’ conference they are inferring that because we are focussed on strengthening the side in key positions and have an abundance of attacking midfielders; we therefore do not need Fabregas and are therefore unlikely to sign him.

Before I argue how not signing him would be a HUGE mistake on our part, I would just like to mention that if you take Arsenal out of the equation, Chelsea seems to be the only likely destination for Fabregas as it appears that he wants to both play in the premier league and be close to his London-based family.

But there are 3 key reasons that we should buy him back…

1. Fabregas is a special talent and unique player.

From when I first saw him play for Arsenal it was very clear that this was a player with incredible patience, a great tactical mind and incredible technique. Watching him grow at Arsenal and slowly become as iconic, consistent and elegant as Bergkamp I really had high hopes that he would flourish into a wonderful player at Arsenal and lead us to many trophies, something that I am sure he could do for us now, his passing and attitude are much better than Ozil. We are giving Chelsea the edge as he will surely create a tonne of opportunities for Hazard, Willian and now Costa.

2. He is a leader. Would we honestly be going down 3, 4 even 5 goals in big games if Fabregas was there? I highly doubt it. I remember how he kept grinding away at AC milan at the San Siro in the champions league a few years ago, he created countless chances for the rest of the squad but he realised that they were not going to convert so he took it upon his shoulders to win the game and he did in the final minutes of the game, similarly at Old Trafford a few years earlier, he neutralized Ronaldo and played the key pass to Adebayor in the last few minutes to win the game. Simply put; Cesc is a competitive leader who’s head does not drop and he keeps fighting until the last few minutes.

3. He knows the team. The transition would be seamless, he would easily establish partnerships with Cazorla, Ramsey and Ozil. He can weight the passes perfectly to Giroud, Walcott and Podolski.

Add in the above qualities and you have a midfield general who fights to his last breath who has a ton of experience and can be a great influence and teacher for Wilshere, Ramsey and all the other young players at Arsenal.

Finally I just want to say that I really cannot understand why we haven’t jumped at the opportunity to bring back one of the finest talents in Europe. He WANTS to play for Arsenal, we HAVE a buy back clause, we simply have to say ‘Yes’ to Barcelona and transfer some money into their account.

Every fan who has watched the last few seasons would happily trade Ozil for Fabregas. £42 Million for a bunch of poor, un-inspiring performances and load of excuses.

Although it can be argued that he had a ‘decent’ season, for what we are paying him, he had a terrible season. I’m sure the intention of signing Ozil was so that he could be the difference, the winner, when we played the bigger teams.

But he was lethargic and demotivating in every top tier game. Claiming that he had not ‘adapted’ to London life or Arsenal is ridiculous.

At the end of the day it’s football and a player of his quality should have got better after 10 games, not worse.

Plus I am sure that it’s not particularly difficult to adapt to London when you make more than £100,000 a week. If he does go to Chelsea they will win the league and embarass Arsenal again and I will be sitting in a pub somewhere watching on as Fabregas refuses to celebrate as Chelsea knock five past Arsenal in 20 minutes waiting for the excuses to pour in again about how ‘we had most of the squad injured’ and that Ozil was exhausted etc…. Groundhog seasons…

From Andy : Fabregas

I’m in two minds about Fabregas.

Yes, I would love to see him at Arsenal but as everyone keeps mentioning…where would he fit in the team?

It’s gonna be difficult for fans to stomach Fabregas playing for another EPL team.

Have you read this article about Cesc slowing down Arsenal’s game. “Vieira made Arsenal tick. He was brilliant defensively but also adept at getting attacking moves going with one or two touches. When Vieira made way for Cesc Fabregas, Arsenal\’s play slowed down. It was never as potent again. Sure, they often weaved pretty patterns in an imitation of Barcelona\’s tiki-taka style. But Arsenal lacked that pacey, incisive play that we see from Manchester City and Liverpool and Real Madrid and Bayern Munich

From Neil Higham: Fabregas

Remember your piece last summer, Myles?

http://arsenalnewsreview.co.uk/wp/index.php/news/3255/30/Fabregas-to-Arsenal-the-deal-has-been-agreed

You said he was coming back to Arsenal, a done deal!

What happened there?

Gone to Chelsea or Man Utd I reckon.

Can’t see where he’d fit into Arsenal now.

Although my football predictions are nearly always wrong, so hopefully that’s the case with this too.

Myles says:

Footballers of his talent and tough character are very few and far between.

I would have taken Fabregas back in a heartbeat, just to see Ramsey score 25 goals in a season.

In a blue shirt, Cesc will look strange for a while.

But he will know Diego Costa very well by then.
