“And Ronaldo wins the World Cup for Germany!”

By Myles Palmer

A classic Colemanballs last Sunday by Five Live commentator ALAN GREEN, the Broadcaster of the Year.

This has not been in the papers yet, but it was replayed on Radio One on Monday.

Alan Green is the most intolerant of football commentators, by far.

He is the first to criticise a mistake by a player.

So it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

When Brazil scored the second goal Alan Green said,”AND RONALDO WINS THE WORLD CUP FOR GERMANY! AND THE GOLDEN BOOT !”

I don’t listen to Five Live much but, after this own-goal, I shall expect Green to be a lot more circumspect in his comments about players.

We all make mistakes, of course. And maybe Green will see the funny side of it.

He could use it as the title for his autobiography.

And Ronaldo wins the World Cup for Germany! by Alan Green.

It’s a catchy title. Memorable. A bit outrageous, but memorable.

A book with that title could be a best-seller.

But not in Brazil.
