From Navin Krishnanandan
Dear Myles,
I am in Malaysia and I have supported Arsenal my entire life.
My dad is an Arsenal fan and I started supporting from a young age.
I am so disappointed that we will have to smile and clap and congratulate Man Utd at Emirates.
The entire series of events that has led to them winning it so easily is appalling.
We sold RvP because we wanted the money.
Sure, he questioned the club’s ambitions openly, but why did we have to sell him to MU? Arsenal and MU were neck and neck a few years ago.
We hated each other. Now, we so easily allowed him to leave, make them stronger, win the BPL !
My question is this, why don’t fans in London do more to show our dissatisfation?
Why is the stadium still rather full? (50,000+). I follow many blogs and there are many disgruntled fans, but yet the tickets are being sold, the seats are being filled every weekend. The board will not bother what the fans feel if we still have a turnout of around 50k at every home game.
Some quarters suggested we stay in silence or turn our backs during the guard of honour for MU. What do you think? I feel we will not make it into the top 4 this year.
We might lose to MU and Newcastle. I still don’t know if it’s a “feel” or a “hope”.
If we do make it again, there is nothing for any fan around the world to be happy about.
The club makes some extra money that is not reinvested.
The fans get to travel to 3 different European cities for the UCL away matches, and then we get knocked out in the group stages or the Second Round. So why bother?! I would love to see some ambition from the Board, the manager and some hunger from the players.
So far the one player that truly stands out with hunger to win is Koscielny.
He really plays his heart out and he would be a much better defender with better players around him.
Thanks for your posts. PS: Totally delighted that Barca got hammered, and Dortmund played superbly.
Myles says:
You are trapped and depressed.
Like me, you’re powerless.
I stopped being disappointed years ago and stopped being angry about 18 months ago.
Don’t see the point in that any more.
I just focus on being with the people I love, and on the book and film I want to write.
W***** is a swear word in our house.
From Navin :
Hi Myles,
Thanks. I was in the UK once in 2006.
My sister lives in Kent. Was there in May/June 2006 when the stadium was about to be completed.
Was at Highbury but could not enter because the stadium was officially closed due to the upcoming relocation.
Managed to visit the gift shop and then walk to the Emirates.
It was an overwhelming feeling to walk among houses and then suddenly see this huge stadium in front of me. I hoped and prayed that I could watch a game there but the opportunity has not come yet.
I love this club with all my heart and I remember how devastated I was when DB10 missed the penalty against MU and we lost the FA Cup Semi-finals.
Then we came so close to retaining our EPL title but lost to Leeds (i think).
I remember Diawara missing so many chances and Nelson Vivas not covering the back post when they scored.
That year, MU did the treble. Damn them !!!
That was a good rivalry, now we are left to give them a guard of honour ! How far we have fallen !
Before the days of the Internet, I used to walk from my school to the bus stop and on my way I used to stop by the local newspaper stand to read about the previous night’s game. If there was a picture of any Arsenal players, I would cut out the picture and keep it in my scrap book.
Dennis Bergkamp was a god.
Not a single player in the last 5 seasons even deserve to be in the same team as DB10.
Wilshere has potential. But today, he has just that. Potential. When he realizes his potential, someone big will come and buy him for around 25mil.
Gone are the days when we would have already won the psychological battle in the tunnel itself. Teams feared us. Teams feared Adams and Vieira when they stood at the front of the team as we walked out.
Today anyone can beat us. No one is afraid of us.
We fans have to listen to our friends gloat about how easily MU won the title and how Arsene helped them!
Some days, it is hard to be a Gooner.
