Pragmatic Unai Emery can win games from the techical area

Arsenal 3 Leicester City 1

Bellerin 31 (o.g.) Ozil 45 Aubameyang 63 Auba 65

Unlike Wenger, Emery can think on his feet and win games from the sidelines.

His substitutions are not scripted before the kick-off.

That opens up a whole vista of different possibilities.

Emery is not a cerebral sports scientist and will never be a world class spin-doctor who can control the narrative for 20 years.

But this guy can turn games upside down from the touchline and he’s already doing it regularly at Arsenal.

But let’s forget about distant horizons. Football is always about the next game and the next game is Sporting Lisbon on Thursday night.

Followed by Crystal Palace on October 28th.

Arsenal v Liverpool (Nov 3rd)  is followed by Arsenal v Wolves (11th) and then they go to  Bournemouth ( 25th) before playing Spurs at the Emirates on December 2nd.

That is  quite a challenging fixture list. But, as any footballer will tell you, when you’re winning, the next game can’t come soon enough.

Last night Lichtsteiner was given his first Premeir League start at left back and Ozil was captain and Mkhitaryan was back, with Aubameyang on the bench.

Leicester looked very energetic but also solid, with Ben Chilwell continuing to impress after his England debut, and when Maddison launched a pinpoint free-kick into the box, Harry Maguire had a header well saved by Leno.

Then Lacazette had a moment of electric sharpness. When he tried a quick  through pass the ball suddenly bounced straight back to him, so Laca just hit a rocket shot that fizzed over the bar

In 31, an Ndidi crossfield pass released Ben Chilwell and his tidy touch took him into the Arsenal penalty area and his shot went over the line off the boot off the covering Bellerin.

Arsenal 0 Leicester 1.

A booking for Xhaka soon followed the goal.

With half-time looming, Ozil glided rapidly down the pitch, supported by Bellerin, and the German’s pass found the right back and his low cross was converted with sublime skill. As Ozil ran into the box he changed his stride pattern as sweetly as a ballerina and guided the ball in off the far post with his left boot.

That’s Mesut Ozil: surgical accuracy.

HT : 1-1.

In 58 Leicester got a corner on the right and Maddison drove in a beauty and Ndidi bounced a header off the crossbar.

Albrighton came on for Iheanacho, Aubameyang replaced the Armenian, and Guendouzi came on for Lichtsteiner with Xhaka moving to left back.

When Ozil released Bellerin down the right flank and his cutback was tapped in at the far post by Aubameyang.

Another very slick nine-man Arsenal move soon wrapped up the game. They sliced through the stretched Leicester defence with geometrical precision and Auba made it 3-1.  Ramsey came on, Laca had a shinner over the bar.

In the first half hour, as Arsenal were being completely outplayed, I was thinking: This is the strangest Monday Night Football I’ve ever seen.

But Emery’s switches made it 10 wins in a row.

When Ivan Gazidis hired the Spaniard, I said he had the best CV of any available Head Coach.
