From Ben Peters : Game over
It’s all so boring now. Every football fan has an opinion, most believe they are right but normally the manager does pretty well with the resources they have.
Arsenal Football Club is now one big joke.
There have been lots of false promises: The move from Highbury was necessary and will enable the club to compete with Man Utd, Chelsea etc.
Every summer and winter, the board tell fans there a substantial funds to spend on the squad if necessary.
This summer has been the biggest joke of all- do people really forget what Mr Wenger said in his final press conference???!!!!
“We have shown that we have the technical quality to win the league but certainly not the defensive solidity to do it,.We need to add, of course, and we will do, we will be ‘active and busy’ in the summer”
Season ticket prices have risen, we are now the most expensive football club in the world to watch.
A few questions for Mr Wenger- as he is the face of the club:
1. Why do you lie to the fans and promise that we will strengthen in the right areas and quickly and then leave things to the last minute?
2. Goalkeepers- are you comfotable with what you have got? Szczesny is still somewhat unproven/ an injury away from having Fabianski/ Almunia/ Shea in goal. Wouldn’t it have been worth £5m to have Shay Given for 2 years to show them the ropes and some experience?
3. Defence– this is clearly the weakest part of our team yet you have done nothing to strengthen it. Why piss about with £10m offers for Jagielka? Why not go and do it early like United? This is a strategy that clearly works.
4. Midfield- I actually do not want Cesc or Nasri anymore. I am a fan and I do not want them at my club. I thank them for what they have done but neither want to be there so sell them and for a combined price of £60m and either pay off some debt and play Ramsey and Rosicky (probably what you want to do) or go and buy 2 quality midfielders.
5. Contracts– It’s unbelievable that Almunia, Eboue, Squillaci, Denilson, Diaby, Rosicky, Bendtner are still on long term deals and Nasri/ Flamini etc were left with one year to run.
How do you allow this to happen?
6. Fans– do you realise how many ‘true’ fans you have distanced from the club with your behaviour?
7. Money– for all you people who say we don’t have the money- nonsense. We had at least £30m to spend on players at the start of the summer + £7m Clichy, + £35 Cesc, + £25 Nasri, + £10 Bendtner and Eboue. Close to £110m on new talent, we could have sent out a message.
The only message now is that we think that the team that finished 4th and on a whimper is good enough to win a league that has got stronger since May!
I would so love to be proven wrong.
For him to buy a keeper, 2 strong 6ft CB’s, a Patrick Vieiraesque midfielder, a pacy front man and tell us all that we are going to win the league and we mean business! It will 100% not happen!!!!
I’m addicted to Arsenal but I now find myself hating that addiction. The stadium, the team, the manager are a big turn-off.
From Kubla Khan : Transfer procrastrination & Barton
Dear Myles,
Your recent posts have reflected a certain chaos in your thinking, mimicking that of Wenger perhaps.
You wrote yesterday that Arsenal will buy 3 players, now you advocate Barton too.
I think:
1. Both Nasri and Fabregas will be sold by the deadline. No replacements will be signed. Wenger and Gazidis will cite huge transfer fees and lack of quality as the main reasons. Ramsey will replace Fabregas. The money from these sales will be banked or used to pay debt.
2. Wenger will not buy Jagielka or Cahill. He has Djourou and Squillaci, whom he considers equal to the challenge.
3. Wenger and the club have not been serious about buying new players. They have bid derisory bids just to ensure fans hear about these and keep quiet.
4. Gervinho is a replacement for Bendtner but Gervinho wanted to join. That weakened Lille’s position. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be that signing.
5. Arsenal have a plan. It is to keep a semblance of competing.
Not competing, but the necessary illusion of doing so. Everything is virtually real these days and really virtual. This is Tweet land. Only United, Chelsea and City are serious about winning. Wenger and Gazidis are the masters of the new age reality-fabrication-myth.
6.Wenger’s press conferences are embarrassing. He lectures but doesn’t answer. He subverts truth. He should not think he is Foucault because he is French.
7.Arsenal will go into the new season with no belief and no new qualities.
They will finish 6th or 7th unless the others become suicidal or he buys Hazard in January to save himself, like Arshavin saved him, remember?
8. Barton tweets and has the freedom to do so. Pray, where is the oppression? He should see oppression in Syria. That is the true thing.
