Hi Myles,
I don’t disagree with 90% of what you say, maybe 50%.
Just so you have feedback, the only reason I keep coming back here is that I’m a typical Arsenal fan – buying the future based on the past.
I remember the good old days when Myles was at his best, making astute observations as to why Arsenal were winning the league. While we were swimming in the joy of a 4-0 win, you’d break down the intricacies of the moves that won the game – it was compelling stuff.
I’m afraid you’re caught on a stuck record now, playing the villain in the Wengerdom trilogy, always looking to grab him at his moment of weakness, maybe throwing a sly whack at his co-star Thierry.
I’m waiting in anticipation for the old Myles. For the days when 90% of your writing was positive, when you spent more time writing about what a terrific prospect Vermaelen is, rather than what a trojan Denilson is.
Is there hope? Will we see the real Myles again, or was the past the real illusion?
Cheers, Eric
Villain replies :
All of life is an illusion. Reality is in side your head. Each of us is a lens. We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are. Hope is what I had before I had before I was disappointed and disappointed again. Life is a long series of disappointments illuminated by the occasional small triumph.
A reader called Louise wrote this week and said I was “sometimes too cynical”. Women have more empathy and less cynicism, I find.
Vermaelen was a terrific prospect before he became captain of Ajax.
Last season he was one of the best centrebacks in the Premier League. He’s good enough to play for Manchester United.
