Johnny Marr book is by one of the good guys

From Colin Shanner: Johnny Marr

Margaret Thatcher, like Ronald Reagan, knew that if you put people under enough hardship, they would turn away from each other in order to protect their own interests. Her vision, like that of all conservative governments, was truly cynical in that it relied on fear, greed and indifference toward others -like someone choosing their new two-car garage over the needs of the unemployed father of three next door – and the terrible consequences of her vision would affect British people for a long time.

– Quote from Johnny Marr autobiography “Set The Boy Free” I’m reading.

It’s a good read, a working class Mancunian lad of Irish descent who made good.

Different era than yours, but could resonate with the old beatnik.

Myles says:

Different eras? Yes.

But I will never apologise for preferring Van Morrison to Elvis Costello, Stevie Wonder to Steve Strange, Little Feat to Duran Duran.

I became a parent in the Eighties and our kids were too young to become punks.

We were, I admit, a Jacko household for years.

Became a rock journalist again after I saw Prince’s first gig at Wembley Arena circa 1986. Wasn’t great but far better than his Dirty Minds show at the Lyceum.

Milk-snatcher Thatcher wasn’t joking when she said,”The trouble with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.”

Sensible government is very difficult these days because parties are owned by banks and corporations. And policy comes from right-wing think-tanks.

Finding a balance is impossible now, so we’ll never have a good government again.

PS: The despicable Tony “WMD” Blair, a failed pop star, was far more cynical than Thatcher ever was. That scumbag  kicked the can down the road again and again and left future generations with debt and debt and DEBT.

I sincerely hope that historians will explain to future generations that New Labour was the most right-wing government the UK has ever had.

Johnny Marr? He’s one of the good guys.

That much is clear from musicians I know who know him & worked with him.
