Marouane Chamakh is a stylish 25-year-old Moroccan striker who has just won the title in France playing alongside the No.1 player in French league, Yoann Gourcuff, who is 22.
Chamakh has been in the Bordeaux team for six seasons and scored 56 goals in 214 appearances. Respectable stats in a side that has been far below Lyon for most of his career.
From what little I’ve seen, Chamakh is a useful striker with good movement.
In a team with DB10, PV4, Robbie Pires and Freddie, he would be awesome. In the current outfit, who knows?
If Philippe Auclair said a deal was close, I believe that Wenger really wants the boy.If he comes, maybe Gourcuff will come next year. That WOULD be exciting
Is he good enough to make a big difference to this Arsenal team? I really don’t know. He’s slim and quick with a good touch, so he’s a little bit like Anelka and Henry.Chamakh is said to be good in the air but I’ll believe that when I see it.
Bordeaux chairman Jean-Louis Triaud says Chamakh “won’t join Arsenal for €10 million.”
Bordeaux have won six titles, Lyon seven. Lyon’s titles came consecutively from 2002 to 2008. It won’t come up in a pub quiz but it’s an interesting fact : Lyon were never champions before 2002.
Tonight Stuart Pearce’s Under-21s will field a weakened side against Germany and only need a draw to top their group. The semi-finals are on Friday.
Apparently, Capello told Pearce he was right to drop Theo Walcott for the second game. He looks likely to start tonight in a match England don’t need to win. The game might be a bore and the lad might struggle. Last season Theo scored 8 in 27 starts and 8 sub appearances for Arsenal
Italy’s old men played as if they wanted to be back home last night and Brazil hammered them 3-0. All the goals were in the first half, two by Luis Fabiano.
Dunga’s side don’t play the fluid pass-and-move football that we always hope Brazil will provide. Melo is a terrific athlete but his passing needs to improve.
Kaka is still Brazil’s best player but he looks tired. He’s willing, though.
South Africa will make the Brazilians work for their place in the Confederation Cup final against Spain, who play USA on Wednesday
