Antonio Conte’s abysmal Chelsea make Arsenal look like world-beaters

Iwobi and Bellerin were superb as Arsenal ripped Chelsea to shreds on Saturday.

Their 3-0 home win, which could easily have been five or six, was their first victory over Chelsea since October 2011.

In 11 minutes, Gary Cahill bungled a back-pass to Courtois and was robbed by the fiery Alexis Sanchez, who scored with a flourish. A routine finish for a footballer of his huge ability. We all knew he wouldn’t miss.

AND THAT WAS THE GAME.

With the eleven Conte had picked, I knew Chelsea would not come back.

A slick 10-pass move straight from the Wenger playbook allowed Walcott to make it 2-0 in 14 minutes.

And when Ozil and Sanchez broke with a swift scissors movement, the German maestro made it 3-0.

Ozil didn’t mean to kick the ball into the ground but when he did the bounce gave Courtois no chance.

Koscielny was immense, of course.

There’s something deeply flawed about Chelsea in the last two years.

Something  that’s nothing to do with Dr Eva or Jose or anybody else, something sick, something we don’t know about.

How could this team, which won the title two seasons ago, have sunk so low again?

Antonio Conte, normally so animated, looked on in shock as his defence was opened up again and again. His back four had no protection at all !

Chelsea’s first shot on  target was after a breakaway by sub Batshuayi in 84.

In every match, Conte has brought his subs on too late.

Diego Costa was superb but he wasn’t able to play Arsenal on his own.

Nobody can believe that Ivanovic, who has played rubbish for the last 18 months, still commands a first team place and is captain.

Swiss international Granit Xhaka, 24 tomorrow, came on in  32 after Coquelin was injured in a tackle with Kante.

Arsenal v Basel is on Wednesday night and it looks as if Xhaka will start that game.

CSKA Moscow v Tottenham is at 5pm tomorrow and Eric Lamela is the man who can help Spurs get something.

On recent evidence, Arsenal are slick enough to finish above Spurs in the Premier League.

Clearly, both managers have better squads this season.

But I reckon Liverpool will end up above both of North London clubs.
