The Fabregas story in 256 words

From Bert Wright : FAB4

On the past evidence of Paddy Vieira and Thierry Henry, these transfer sagas have a familiar pattern and sad as I would be to see him go, I think Cesc is gone and with him the heart of this team.   If Nasri follows, then what confidence would we place in Wenger’s acumen to replace them and rebuild from the wreckage of his “experiment?”

Not a lot, I’d suggest.

Wenger lets targets slip through his fingers every year and ends up buying the wrong players anyway.   Can’t see that changing.

But the greatest indictment of Wenger’s entire career will be the massive opportunity he totally blew with the lovely little footballer who is Cesc Fabregas.

He should have been the cornerstone of the new post-Invincibles Arsenal, delighting us with his brilliant performances in our spanking new stadium which, in fairness, he did on many occasions.

That he was unable to get his hands on one single trophy throughout that period, is an absolute travesty when you consider the journeymen who have won gongs galore with Man U and Chelski and even Liverpool.

No, Wenger betrayed the brilliance of Cesc by forcing him to do the annual penance of playing alongside the likes of Denilson, Diaby, Bendtner and Eboue, players not fit to suit up in his company.

He deserved much much better and could have had it so easily, but for Wenger’s delusional stubborness.Wouldn’t you just love to be a fly on the wall when they conduct their parting conversation?

Thanks for the memories Boss, my arse!
