Hoddle and Souness 100% right on Stevie G

I didn’t see the Sky after-match till this morning.

Graeme Souness pointed out that Stevie is the only icon at the club.

We all knew that, even if the Liverpool manager didn’t.

Glenn Hoddle said Stevie could have done “another year, easily.”

He pointed out that Gerrard makes the ball do the work, so he would still be valuable.

Souness said, “Liverpool will regret getting rid of Steven Gerrard at this time.”

Totally agree.

I’ve been unhappy with the way Brendan Rodgers  has treated Gerrard while simultaneously playing homage to him every week.

Leaders don’t grow on trees.Goalscorers don’t either.

The Chelsea-Liverpool match, a 1-1 draw, was notable for :

1. Cesc Fabregas not being sent off by Andre Marriner.

Fabregas produced a spiteful Souness-tackle of Raheem Sterling’s ankle inside 25 seconds!

Ref Andre Marriner only gave a yellow. When Fabregas pulled Raheem’s shorts on the right wing, the ref let it go because he didn’t want to spoil the party.

2.  Loftus-Cheek, the 19-year old midfielder, played an hour before Matric replaced him.

He has size, pace and skill. Looks like a good player.

3.  Chelsea’s goal after 5 minutes was typical Chelsea.

Outswinging Fabregas corner from right, headed in by John Terry from 8 yards. So easy.

4.  A Gerrard header made it 1-1 after 44 from a Henderson free-kick near the corner flag.

After Ivanovic fouled Lallana, Gerrard dodged around at the far post, losing two markers, then headed down into the net.

5. The reason neither team could score in open play was that neither had a striker.

Mourinho says he’ll start Izzy Brown at West Brom next week.

Brown,18, played for West Brom for three years.

Izzy is a classy, flicky kind of forward-winger, rather than a power player.
