Baptista v Tevez earns £2 million for Arsenal

As friendlies go, Sunday's Brazil-Argentina game is quite interesting.

Especially financially : Arsenal will make £2 million out of the game.

Brazil, now coached by Dunga, might use Wenger's latest recruit, Julio Baptista.

If Dunga picks him, it will be fascinating to see whether Baptista plays as a striker or in midfield.

WE CAN BE fairly sure that Carlos Tevez had never heard of West Ham until last week.

Tevez is the only footballer to ever win South American player of the year three times, following Colombia's Carlos Valderrama, the only one to win the award twice.

He wore No.10 for Boca Juniors, like Maradona, and is short, tricky and penetrating, like Maradona. He scored eight goals in six games to win Olympic gold for Argentina in Athens.

Mostly, the chunky striker is fun to watch because he is so direct.

In style, Tevez is the exact opposite to Crespo, who is a smart, patient poacher whose movement in the box is unsurpassed.

And he is nothing like the bantamweight Saviola, who has refused a move to England because he has only one year left on his Barcelona contract.

Bullock-strong and brave, Tevez gets the ball and beats people and shoots. He is 22, very skilful and bouncy, a do-it-yourself goalscorer who can interpass at high speed.

It's not easy for an Argentine, especially a young Argentine, to go to the Brazilian club and do well but Tervez sparkled in his first season at Corinthians and they won the league.

Tevez has balls, takes plenty of kicks, and tends to turn it on in big games.

This isn't a big game, of course. But it's against Brazil in a new stadium in London and the crowd will contain many thousands of Latin Americans.

Coming from the underclass in suburban Buenos Aires, Tevez dreamed of making it Europe. By that we mean, of course, Spain or Italy. Argentine footballers generally prosper in Spain, Italy and even France.

In England? Who knows? If Tevez brings over his family and friends, like Reyes, he will not integrate or learn the language.

I doubt if he will stay two years. Boca-Corinthians-West Ham doesn't look like a career path for one of the world's most exciting footballers.

AFTER SUCH a confusing and controversial week, can Carlos Tevez now turn it on for a capacity crowd at the Emirates?

Why not? I expect him to play well, just as I expect Ashley Cole to play well for England against Andorra.

Since it's a 4 p.m. kick-off in London (BBC1), it's Sunday morning game for millions for Brazilian and Argentinian fans back home.

JAVIER MASCHERANO is more educated than Tevez, an Albertini type, a ball-winner who passes to creative teammates. He might be better than Albertini and if has half the career that Albertini had he will be doing well.

Interestingly, new coach Alfio Basile has included Aguero, the kid.

Sergio Aguero, 18, is the hot striker who has just joined Atletico Madrid, where he will link up with Fernando Torres .

Aguero is quite small but Basile likes short players, I hear.

The Guardian reported two weeks ago that a Ukrainian company has bought the TV rights to Argentina's next 18 friendly matches.

I didn't see the article but gather that Argentina's next game is in Spain and then they play Italy twice.

NICKLAS BENDTNER scored the final goal in Demark's 4-2 win over Portugal last night.

Bendtner's loan deal with Birmingham is for six months. He can come back after Xmas and score goals for Arsenal.
