Wenger protects his babies by making excuses for them.
He protects his babies by giving them improved contracts.
He protects his babies with amazingly resourceful spin, which has started to sound threadbare and ridiculous in recent weeks and days.
Angered by Sky\’s Sunday Supplement show, where Neil Ashton and three football reporters discuss the issues of the week, he had a go at Ashton on Monday and produced a toxic press conference which dismayed his players.
Who were already fragile after losing at home to Blackburn and being booed off the pitch.
His players watched him being sarcastic with a girl reporter and thought, “The boss has really lost it. I\’ve never seen him like that!â€
Basically, Wenger\’s empire has collapsed.
Arsenal\’s season is over because his ideas have failed.
He should own up. He has to own up. He has been in denial for years. So have his supporters. They are as delusional as he is.
Wenger should resign in the summer. He must walk.
He must know he’s finished. He has to walk now.
For years he has bought the silence of the people who work for him but damning stories are now leaking out.
He\’s had a very good innings.
And he’s achieved legendary successes during his golden years up till 2004.
He\’s done about 30 years of hard work in his 16 years with Arsenal.
He\’s now comprehensively wealthy.
Last year I heard that he\’s on £8 million a year and £7 million is paid offshore.
He\’s a rich and famous man who has earned a place in football history.
Wenger will be remembered for the thrilling football of his title-winning Arsenal teams, for his plausible public performances on TV, for his stubbornness, for his imaginative spin-doctoring, and for his audacious power-grabs during those 16 years as “manager†of Arsenal.
The club has been a wonderful vehicle for him and Stan Kroenke was a godsend.
Because Stan believes in profitable mediocrity. Stan is a loser who thinks being an also-ran club is just fine.
I reckon, when the dismay subsides and the dust settles, and a new manager is installed, that people will eventually realise that Arsene Wenger\’s most unique achievement is that he interviewed three candidates for the job of Arsenal CEO.
I heard that he pissed off two of them.
He had more power than any British “manager†has ever had, even Brian Clough.
This dictator won\’t miss the money.
But he\’ll miss the power
