Arsenal did exist before Wenger

From Augie : AKB Phil

Would somebody please point out to Phil that there was life before Wenger, and it wasn’t Wenger that signed Bergkamp – that kind of thinking is the very reason that so many people despise the AKBs cos they believe that our club didn’t exist prior to Wenger joining us.

I love the way Phil points out all the great signings Wenger made, but also opts to ignore the pile of shite (like Sanago, Almunia, Santos etc) that he signed too.

Btw we signed Cech because he wanted to stay in London and we were the only London club in Champs League, so we had no competition for his signature.

The only competition we had for Sanchez was from the scousers and they too were outside the Champs League. That is not me knocking the positive impact these signings have had, but I am merely pointing out that when world class players land in your lap, it doesn’t take a genius to recognise it and sign them.

The lack of resources argument really pisses me off – this is a guy that has had the second largest wage bill for years, and has seen us waste so much money by offering bumper contracts to sub-standard crap like Bendtner, Almunia, Denilson and the perma-injured Diaby.

Wenger himself benefited handsomely during the lack of funds era, as his contracts raised to  £7.5m per season. Our issue wasn’t that we had a lack of funds, but more a case that we didn’t use the available funds properly.

Myles says:

Don’t mention Almunia, Santos or Bendtner on ANR again. Ever.

Same goes for the only Brazilian midfielder who couldn’t run.

What AW did with DB10  and Overmars was phenomenally insightful and bold.

He flogged Merson off to give Bergkamp a bigger role that made Arsenal five times more dynamic and penetrating.
