The Importance of Being Arsene

Three days ago I asked a question on Twitter.

Asked for a title for the Arsenal stage play.

And after three days I got the perfect answer from ANR reader Mike: The Importance of Being Arsene

From John Silton : Wenger

Wenger is the greatest con artist in professional football.

He was fine until 2007 because the team improved under him to a huge degree and – importantly – he made progress.

From this time on he has failed to improve and make progress.

For three years the Board and Wenger told us us the resources were there to buy top players. Now the money is there he refuses to strengthen because he believes he and only he has some supreme power to generate success from his own agenda.

All the teams who won things and are superior to Arsenal strengthened but it appears that we don’t need anyone.

In legal parlance he should be tried for gross negligence; he is taking Arsenal nowhere.

However, the Board is equally to blame as they do not hold him accountable and wont make the change that is badly needed.

Do you know of any other organisation where the managing director works for the manager? Whilst this current regime is in place nothing will change. I retain my ticket because I have this blind faith that something will cause him to go- but I have no real hope of this.

What we need is 15,000 or more people to go on strike and miss a couple of home games in protest- but how do we make this happen?

I agree that a bad season might be the catalyst for him t go but he is so arrogant he would probably persist. Help.

Myles says:

I’m the wrong man to ask about a boycott on that scale.

Got no experience of grassroots political organisation.

Arrogant? Yes.

Right now, Arsenal don’t need a genius.

They need a switched-on 40something coach who will transform the Colney Creche and create a competitive culture.
