Harper to Cardiff
Cardiff have taken Arsenal midfielder James Harper on a month’s loan, with a view to a permanent £250,000 move.
Harper is 19 and follows 20 year-old Defender Rhys Weston. He played for Arsenal in the Worthington Cup.
According to one paper, Harper will be pitchforked straight into that squad for tomorrow’s match at Blackpool – if it beats the big freeze. A pitch inspection will take place this morning.
Strange initiation ceremonies at Cardiff then, eh?
Odd indeed
Arsenal fans can get odds of 6-1 if they speculate that Manchester United will fail to win a trophy during 2001.
Bergkamp to sign….
Dennis Bergkamp will end months of speculation about his future by signing a new £35,000-a-week two-year contract, according to the Mirror.
He will now be at Highbury until he is 34 and will put pen to paper in a fortnight.
His agent Rob Jansen said: “There is no problem and it is now just a case of sitting down with Arsenal and signing the contract.
Newcastle and Tottenham. have both made enquiries about Bergkamp and theoretically he is free to talk to foreign clubs from January 1.
Wenger honour
Arsene Wenger has been voted the fourth best French manager of the 20th century.
He was honoured by a jury of former winners of France Football’s Player of the Year award.
Apparently though, Sylvain Wiltord didn’t name his boss in his top five.
