Memo to Howard Webb: Don’t let Brazil butcher Alexis Sanchez right from the kick-off

I’m looking forward to Brazil v Chile at 5pm.

Yesterday I wrote a preview of this game in my head.

Which I will type out on Saturday morning.

But tonight’s news that the referee will be Howard Webb gives me some cause for concern.

There’s pressure from the home crowd, of course.

And a more oblique pressure on the Brazilian team to keep winning so that supporters keep a lid on social unrest and demonstrations by activists.

Webb must stand tall in this game.

First bad tackle on Alexis Sanchez will come inside three minutes, I’m sure.

Alexis, as ever, will be too brave for his own good,

Webb should not give half the Brazilian team a free foul on Chile’s best player because if he does the Brazilians will kick him onto a stretcher and into hospital.
