Roberto Carlos’s comment disgraces Brazil, Nike and the World Cup

ROBERTO CARLOS has been rubbish in this World Cup.He is a circus act these days

His absence in Brazil’s last game improved the team hugely and they beat Japan 4-1.

He is the worst of the galacticos, the most arrogant, the most ill-disciplined, the most depressed, the most alienated, the most angry of them all.

In a World Cup which has seen the galacticos in meltdown, Roberto Carlos has become an ugly caricature of his former self.

He  says Ghana have “no chance.”

That comment shames his team, his sponsor, and 180 million Brazilians. He has also  shamed a World Cup that thousands of Germans have worked so hard to organise, so that billions of fans around the world can see players like Roberto Carlos on television.

Where is the sportsmanship? Where is the dignity? Where is the respect for fellow competitors ?

Is this insult what we expect to hear from a footballer from Brazil, the team everyone loves for their style ?

Ghana, the last African team in the competition, have only 700 fans in Germany.

They have played better football than England, Ukraine, Holland or the Ivory Coast, and they might beat Brazil, whose sparky young playmaker Robinho has been injured in training.

By showing such contempt for his opponents, Roberto Carlos will bring a torrent of contempt and bad karma on himself.
