BRAZILIAN players started the Australia game with the big shadow of Argentina on their shoulders.
The Brazilian press and fans had been pumped up by the 6-0 victory of Jose Pekerman ´s boys against Serbia, so the eyes of the nation turned to the game and to Ronaldo once more.
Sadly, the player we all wanted to be our greatest star was a disaster. His work on the first goal didn ´t improve the situation among the fans, despite the great credit he has with other Brazilian players and Parreira.
That is similar to the David Beckham – Sven Eriksson relationship.
So instead of celebrating our 2-0 win over Australia, all our fans just talk about wanting to see a better performance than this.
Ronaldinho Gaucho said today in the Brazilian newspaper Folha De São Paulo, “I am better in Barcelona than Brazil, because in my Spanish club, I play closer to the opposite goal than in the national team.”
Coach Parreira seemed more nervous than ever in his body gestures, but Parreira thinks in same way that Sir Bobby Robson thinks about the current English team.
Bobby said on Radio 5, “We are not playing well- but we are winning. In cup tie football you get urgency and aggression, which is sometimes missing in group stages, and that will gave the team a big lift.”
For our next game against Japan there are rumours of a lot of reserves being picked in team, like Gilberto Silva, who received a good review from Falcão, who played in that 1982 team, for working hard for the squad.
About the future some fans are sceptical now.
When the team left the country it was like the USA basketball team, expecting to beat everybody, so it must be very hard for some fans to accept the reality of the way we are playing.
