The last week of April saw one of the best goals of 2006 disallowed by referee Markus Merk.
But England look like getting a good manager !
My highlights were something like this :
SATURDAY : Arsenal 1 Spurs 1. So Spurs are fourth but have not beaten any team in the top six.
SUNDAY : Jose Mourinho proved he is still the manager of Porto. He put his Chelsea team into a straightjacket and they lost 2-1 to Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final at Old Trafford.
Memo to Jose : Players lose confidence quickly And wingers lose confidence more quickly than other players.
MONDAY : West Ham players celebrated last night after knocking out Middlesbrough, then they had today off, celebrated again on Monday night, so I decided to have a bet on Liverpool to beat them in a Prem game, even though Rafa will rest a few.
TUESDAY; Much ado about 0-0 in Villarreal, where Thierry watched the whole game from the centre circle. Then he did a TV interview and said, “Can I just mention that Steven Gerrard is a nice boy?”
How bizarre was that?
Prem result : West Ham 1 Liverpool 2
WEDNESDAY : Nou Camp, 87.06 : Deco fouls Kaladze. Free kick given.Subs on : Rui Costa for Gattuso, Larsson for Giuly. 88.16 : Pirlo takes a straight free-kick down the middle, deep into the Barcelona box. Puyol realises he can’t get there, stumbles, Sheva heads past Dida from 10 yards, Merk disallows a fair goal and it’s another zero-zero. Lucky Barcelona !
Case proven : second legs don’t exist.
Iniesta played the game of his life in left midfield. Have watched this kid for two years and never seen him play like that. Will Iniesta be that good again in Paris?
THURSDAY : Two-goal Maccarone bounces Steua Bucharest out of Uefa Cup, so Boro play Seville in Eindhoven. Two Prem clubs in European finals !
FRIDAY : Newspapers already slagging off Big Phil Scolari before he has accepted the job ! Sunday sports editors phoning all hacks willing to slag off Scolari. Mourinho moans that Big Phil never came to watch Porto train but admits, “Everyone has his own way of working.”
SATURDAY : I gather The Sun have a Steve McClaren scoop.
