From David Storm : Bayern should be ashamed of themselves, but they won’t be
Great club?
I was really looking forward to this game between 2 great teams, but from the water on the pitch it descended into Mourinho-levels of gamesmanship and nobody should be poking the opposition in the eye like that.
Stopping the opposition playing by watering the pitch to saturation- that goes beyond professionalism and into the realms of outright cheating.
Expect the same tactic even more so against Arsenal in the Premier League next year.
This is what Uefa should concern themselves with.
What next?
Sand the last 10 yards of the pitch to hold the ball up? Was it Cambridge United who did that in the 80s?
Bayern Munich have got the result and the history will remember that in 3 words and 2 numbers, but football fans will remember the bad taste.
Myles says:
Gross neglect by yours truly to not mention that.
It hadn’t rained all day in Munich but there were vast puddles on the pitch.
Uefa should appoint a water ref to all BM’s home games in future.
If the pitch is like rice paddy at 7.30 pm, award a 2-0 victory to the visitors
Bayern were embarrassed enough to have groundsmen fork the centre circle at half-time.
Probably after bitter complaints.
But the damage had already been done.
