Arshavin/Van Persie/ Jimmy Savile/Pacquiao

From Richard : Couple of things

Myles, I have to take issue with a few of your comments from today’s post.

I don’t think Arshavin is wanting to move because of the Cup Final snub.

I believe he wants to go because he realises that Wenger will never play him in his preferred role, as a No. 10.

I was quite young when Ali was in his pomp and, like you it seems, I bought into the media creation of Ali as some kind of superhero. As I paid more attention and more facts started to be revealed, I became  much more sympathetic to Frazier, to the point where I hold him in great esteem and Ali beneath contempt.

Lastly, I largely agree that there are no more boxers worth watching.

Except Pacquiao. I am utterly convinced that Pacquiao would have been a champion in any era. It’s a shame that there are no other good fighters to challenge him. And don’t get me started on Mayweather, a legend in (only) his own mind.

Cheers!

From Naz : Arshavin

Wenger killed Arshavin by dropping him for the Chelsea semi-final. Broke his heart. Damaged him badly.

So what? Move on.

The guy has no mentality. He was depressed when Russia did not qualify for the Euro’s which he says affected his Arsenal form.

Why not get your head down and put some effort into your game? He hasn’t performed for us. You moaned bout Eboue, but at least he gave 100%, just look at how he bounced back from the Wigan game. I couldn’t care less if he doesn’t play for us again.

From Ahmed Khattab : Jimmy ” £40m” Savile

“Jimmy Savile was only a DJ” ?

He was a member of MENSA, but more importantly he raised staggering £40million+ for charity! Word is, is that he set up the first disco in 1948. Astonishing!

The only thing he couldn’t fix was Pneumonia.

RIP Savile, LEGEND.

From Jeff Morrison : Autumn

You know Myles, you’re right. This is the first autumn during which I haven’t had that usual giddy rush of exhilaration. Usually my favorite time of year but I feel I’m also living in a country I can’t believe in anymore.

And I honestly don’t see how things are going to improve. I’m depressed and I wish it was just because Arsenal misused and potentially ruined a great player in Arshavin.

Unfortunately it feels like a deeper malaise based more on the overall human condition/nature we seem to revert to when times are tough. The political landscape over here is downright terrifying, so shortsighted and just sad.

From Mike: Two things

Two quick things, Myles.

‘There are no boxers worth watching these days’ – Manny Pacquiao is an amazing boxer. Brutal. Definitely worth watching.

‘He was only a DJ, folks!’ – I think that’s a little unfair seeing as though I read he helped raise £40,000,000 for charity and gave £60,000 a year to sponsor medical students at Leeds hospital.

I reckon he had a hand in saving many lives.

Get it right mate!

From Graham Taylor : Arsh, Smokin’ Joe etc

Well done for today’s free-wheeling blog. For the first time EVER, I was able to print off a FOOTBALL related blog for my wife to read AND ENJOY!!

You are 100% right about the state of the nation. Just imagine how dis-enfranchised us Cornish feel. What a passive lot we have become.

Random thoughts came to me – “stick a fork in their ass – they’re done” or similar (Lou Reed) and the great Tom Lehrer’s monologue on Dr Gall, inventor of the gall bladder, specialising in the illnesses of the rich.

To the writer of the most infuriating blog on matters Arsenale, I worship at your feet. Keep it up mate.

From Sangbaran Dasgupta: Regarding RVP

Hello Myles,

It is pretty late in UK and   I cannot remember you writing a piece at this time of the day!!!

I have only 1 query…why do you despise Robin Bang Bang Persie???? Why do you have to mock him??? 30+ goals in 2011 and still going strong…only Messi and Ronaldo have better stats and in teams who are way way ahead in quality.

Give the lad some credit!

At least he is zillions of miles ahead of any of the British strikers.
Wishing you a very good night!

Myles replies :

Bang bang is not mocking. His talent is his shooting.

I’m not taking the piss when I call him Robin bang! Persie.

I WISH HIM WELL- he is fit and playing better than he has ever done and Gervinho now helps him a lot. Losing Fabregas was a big blow to him.

Personally, I do not think he will leave.

I think Robin will get a fat new contract and stay.

Sangbaran replies to my reply:

Good morning Myles,

I really hope he stays…the way he celebrated with the Arsenal fans at the Bridge was simply magnificent!!!

It seems the whole team is ready to rally around him and I do not mind him getting a fat contract!!!
