From Brendan
Morning Myles,
Thanks for publishing Nigel Bidmead’s excellent letter. A lot of common sense in there.
I’m sure I’ll get endless stick for saying this but France were unworthy winners of the World Cup.
Griezmann in particular, who, in this house at least, is known as ‘Sleazemann’. An obvious dive for the free kick that led to the first goal.
Then a bizarre penalty decision that gave the French a 2-1 lead in a half they had been completely dominated in.
Afterwards, the Croats had to come at them and try to get back into a game they should have been winning.
And what happened happened.
As in club football, where the big clubs get the decisions, in international football, the big countries get the decisions.
Cheers.
Myles says:
Nigel knows football and media and always talks more sense than most.
Decisions? Yes.
I was sure France would win, partly for that reason.
But I backed Perisic to score at any time at 5/2.
My first glimpse of a 2018 World Cup match came when I saw the TV in the gym cafe and Infantino was sitting between Putin and the King of Saudi Arabia.
Never seen anybody look so chuffed with himself.
His face said: I’m the star of this show, I did all this!
