Three comments on John Stones, Jesse Lingard & Belgium

From Colin Shanner:

“the corner was so accurate that John Stones didn’t even have to jump. He just ran in with time to place his header from 10 yards.”
And WHAT a header it was!
“and ran past him and got the ball back and hit a fabulous right-foot shot from just outside the D. His shot curved beautifully into the top corner. He needed that goal, big time.”
I’m not sure I thought HE was capable of scoring THAT type of goal.

“Panama’a coach Hernan Dario Gomez said his team were frightened of England. Belgium won’t be.

And our Round of 16 opponents won’t be. Unless we beat Belgium on Thursday night.”

As a hip ol’ beatnik is fond of saying: BRING IT ON!!!

Myles says:

All I want, Colin, is a run for my money, a few games that give me buzz, a journey where these guys can make me forget no wins in Brazil in 2014 and losing 2-1 to Iceland.

We don’t know how good a young player like John Stones can be. But we assume he’s enjoying the World Cup so far.

On Jesse Lingard, maybe he bends in that shot in training every week.

On Belgium, I haven’t had time to think about it.

On Sunday we had a party here with nine Palmers and last night six of us were dining in a big pub near the end of Eton Avenue, Swiss Cottage.  The American Palmers had been in Ireland and got a plane to Denver this morning.

In the pub I saw Portugal score against Iran and said, “I think that’s Quaresma!”

He’s much older now, and his hairstyle has changed, but Ricardo Quaresma has always been able to score that goal by jabbing the ball with the outside of his right foot and bending it inside the far post.

That’s how I knew it was him. By where he was on the pitch and the way he hit the ball.
