Arsenal fans lament the season ending with a whimper

From Brendan

Hi Myles,

Having prayed that Arsenal would not fall prey to a simple ball over the top, and would not fail to apply the basic defensive principles of cover and balance, and getting goal-side of your man, what did they do?

It was painful to watch the tentative, ponderous “attack”. No-one wanting – daring – to shoot when the ball was anywhere near the goal, as if frozen by indecision.

Jack was immense and if anyone deserved better it was him. Never should have been subbed.

I take it all back.

An appropriate end to the second and mostly inglorious half of Wenger’s tenure.

Over and out.

From Graham Keat

Hi Myles,

Whimper was an understatement on ANR .

They didn’t deserve to get to the final anyway, far better teams in this competition.

The one biggest thing that was missing, not from Madrid’s team but from Arsene FC was a big lump up front. Costa’s power and presence brutalised our back line again and again and again, What a player!

We had a similar striker who could hold the line, have a presence. Guess what? We sold him. Giroud would have played a part over the two legs. Nice one Arsene, you fool.

Onwards and upwards, let’s hope the board appoints someone who knows  the word defence.

Enjoy the summer.
