Who are we kidding? Players have all the power.
Rooney wants to go, he will go.
Fabregas wanted to go but Wenger said no. I’m sure £80 million would have changed that but £80 million could change anything, even Messi.
Wenger knew Arsenal couldn’t compete, so he brought them in young. Let them play in the hardest league. Now they are top players he blackmails them, so to speak, with owing their careers to him. Arshavin can’t be arsed because he doesn’t owe anyone at Arsenal.
Football is changing. Players with links are what clubs want now. Again, another trend set by Wenger.
We may not like the toothless displays. We may not like the trophyless cabinet. We may not like the goalkeeper. But we are competing at a handicap because only one manager could shoulder all this and still innovate.
Only club in the world that attracts 60,000 people by not trophies but by style of play. That’s an achievement.
Nobody buys art for its gold frame. They buy art because it speaks.
