From Adrian Caddy:
Morning Myles from sunlit Amsterdam.
Clearly, Levy is a sound and shrewd chairman.
His quotes at the Nasdaq sound exactly like many given by Wenger over the 10 years before the last 3 years. Before FFP fell apart and the BT+Sky bonanza landed.
But the old, “we don’t have to spend £20, 30, 40m, because we can bring home grown talent through from the academy” theory Levy talks about has never fully worked at Arsenal or anywhere else, except perhaps Barcelona.
Spurs have a fantastic first 11 right now, a not so deep squad and a great young manager. They resemble early Y2K Arsenal.
With a new stadium to accommodate and big spending mega clubs all around them it will be interesting to see if they can manage the next 10 years better than Arsenal did or if they will follow the same trajectory.
Myles says:
A whole season at Wembley will be a huge worry for Levy & nobody has a clue how that will pan out.
If the much-improved Son scores more goals, and Dele Alli heads two against Chelsea again, and Harry Kane scores 29 league goals again…..the team will do well.
Lukaku only got 25, Alexis Sanchez 24 and the dear departed Diego Costa a mere 20.
While Chairmen might manage decades, managers just concentrate on trying to win two games a week.
That wasn’t easy at White Hart Lane, let alone now.
I respect Pochettino, and like him a lot, but this is a mighty challenge.
