Hi Myles,
In this world of instant gratification, social media I find this article (below) the most balanced on Arsene’s Arsenal.
Yes, he doesn’t do tactics, doesn’t win trophies and over the last few years has become a spin doctor. I really hope that he leaves Arsenal this year since he is past his sell date.
However there is a part of me that will always love him as a fan.
That old world rectitude before social media and oligarchs came , the part that looks back fondly at an idealist me in college who believed pragmatism was not necessary.
I really really hope he leaves but I wish there was less malice and hatred directed towards the man. “The great irony of soccer is that while it is the sport most closely conflated with art, it is also the one must subjected to the ruthless whims of capitalism, of spending and consuming, and, ultimately, defined by the zero sum game of winning and losing hardware.”
