From Colin Bruce Shanner:
Your Burley post today is well meaning, but unfortunately the sentiment is trite.
Kroenke and Wenger are immovable objects.
Two vain and insanely selfish icebergs that were love at first sight.
A match made in Hades. No amount of fan unrest or uproar will ever unseat them, only Father Time can.
Every season unravels early in the new year and then we show our exalted “mental strength” with a late flurry of wins against the also-rans to claim 4th.
Two nouns describe what a true Arsenal supporter feels deep in his core, whether he admits it or not:
Helplessness and Hopelessness.
Football has always been about joy, thrill, glory and most importantly, possibility.
They conspired and succeeded in killing all four ideals for us supporters.
There is no joy in Whoville. Nor will there be.
Chose another team for me to support Myles, I’m finally ready to quit after 49 years because not supporting Wenger and Kroenke IS supporting Arsenal, or at least the idea of what it once was, and could be…
Myles says:
Yes! Possibility is right. Possibility is vital.
But possibilities have been removed by a very stale regime.
Possibility died when Wenger claimed that “Fourth is a trophy.”
Code for: aim lower, get CL millions, keep my job and power.
Fourth is a trophy = End of dreams, end of glory, possibilities diminished in a heartbeat.
Such a shame.Tragic.
Because when he was good, Wenger was fantastic.
As he did a lap of honour with the FA Cup at the old Wembley after the double, Arsene wasn’t really enjoying it as much as he should have done. He hadn’t surrendered to the emotion of the moment because he was already thinking about next season.
He admitted ,”I was thinking: How can I keep all these people happy?”
But it’s too soon to despair, Colin.
When Wenger goes, Kroenke might sell.
