Hello Myles,
I have been a reader of your blog for many years and enjoyed your stance on most areas of the club. Football stands still for no man or club, yet at Arsenal for many years now that is the impression we have been given. I recently met your son at one of his DJ nights – we have a mutual friend and nice to see he was a chip off the old block with Arsenal on his sleeve.
I watched Arsenal-Valencia on Saturday night. Seeing the same wrong players in the same wrong positions blunting our few special players was so depressing.
Anyway below is an email sent to my mates who come to Arsenal with me. It’s how we all feel and thought I might share it with you. I am 28 and we have all been season ticket holders with our fathers and friends since the early/middle 90’s.
********************************************************************
I am so worked up about this season already.
I am so angry.
I can’t take it – how for the fourth season running we have all known the improvements needed for the squad to be up there and Wenger refuses to acknowledge.
I can’t take more lies – how he for the fourth season has explained the importance of making new signings before pre-season then says we won’t buy anybody until the last minute.
How he always says this team can win the league when every player, person, supporter and pundit knows we can’t.
How we are being linked and only look likely to sign the most uninspiring of players.
How he always smiles in interviews about possible transfers – what is so funny?
His arrogance now knows no limits and thank god those of you that persist in the awful phrase ‘In Arsene we trust’ can’t use the lack of funds excuse – we have it.
This is the fourth time in consecutive seasons we have been here as the season starts without a new player to please the supporters. We are the club, not you, Arsene. You need to be told you are not the club
I want to believe – but it is pointless – I am so emotionally drained of being let down – we know how good this squad is because we have had to sit through hours of the awful football, season after season.
I am absolutely disgusted and can’t wait for the club to be run by a person that will make decisions based on improving the football rather than enjoying the status quo.
I hope I am wrong – but for the fourth season in a row very confident I am not.
Supporting Arsenal is the hardest thing in my life – it’s so upsetting.
My beautiful club is being painfully and gradually eroded to mediocrity and no one seems to be standing up and shouting. There is not another board that is so culpable of negligence. There is not another manager who should be under so much pressure to deliver.
But he is not.
And we will fumble, struggle and miserably creak on.
