Arsenal board delay decision/ Wilshere / UEFA warning

There was no conclusion to the boardroom discussion on the proposed rights issue, and a decision is likely next week.

The money would come in handy given the debt, but there are fears that Usmanov, who has pledged to underwrite the issue would gain too much control. Also there’s a distinct lack of cash around at the moment.

Wenger said on www.arsenal.com  on Jack Wilshere’s long term contract:”It is such great news that Jack has signed a new long-term contract. Jack made great progress last season, playing at under-18s, reserves and first-team level and we all witnessed what a great young talent he is. At still 17 years of age, the potential is huge for Jack and we’re all delighted that he has committed his long-term future to Arsenal Football Club.”

Meanwhile, partially triggered by the Gazidis remarks on a salary cap, Uefa said it would announce decisions on “financial fair play” and discuss it with clubs and players at its Professional Football Strategy Council meeting at the end of September.

UEFA said in a statement: “The key principle on the road towards a fairer and more transparent game is that football should reward those clubs living within their means. This means that clubs shall need to reduce their spending. To be viable, salaries and transfers should be proportionate to the generated income. Clubs should invest in their youth sectors, and use their homegrown talent to reinforce their squads.”
