Looks as if Wenger has signed a centreback who is not French or African.
So he might have started listening to us at last.

I rate Ajax stopper Thomas Vermaelen and first noticed him in the Euro 2008 qualifiers.
He was in the team with Fellaini and Kompany, two big lads who can put themselves about and who have prospered in the rough-and-tumble world of the EPL.
Vermaelen might be a good pal for Robin van Persie, although he’s not Dutch. He has 21 caps for Belgium.
Vermaelen is 23 and not a big guy. But he’s five foot eleven and mobile and a strong tackler.
Fee will be close to £10 million.

UPDATE Friday 10.30pm : a Trojan virus kept me offline for 2 days. Could not correct basic errors in the above. Avasti seems to have fixed it at last. These things tend to interrupt my rhythm. By Saturday morning I may be able to remember what pieces I wanted to write on Thursday and Friday.
If I can’t write online, I stop thinking about what I should write and just work on my next book. I’ve done 5,300 words in 2 days, although it’s a rough draft 5,300.
