From Alan Smyth : Brexit
Hi Myles,
Let’s be clear about one thing.
37% of the UK voted to leave Europe, 35% voted to remain and 28% didn’t care enough to let anyone know what they thought.
From Alessandro Caldon : Brexit and Vardy
A slight correction to your post – a little over 37% voted to leave EU – that is 52% of the 72% that voted.
There was still a block of 28% that presumably had no opinion.
Sorry, I’m feeling a little nit-picky today.
I feel exactly the same as you posted about Vardy and Leicester having a Champions League adventure and, much like my feelings over the Brexit vote, am both vaguely disappointed and pleased he didn’t sign.
I’m just hoping Wenger finds the 60m we need for a striker but past experience does not make me hopeful….
From Pete : the amateur FA
I used to work with a much older guy, and one day learned that he was an FA member.
Even more that he was a council member, not a top echelon guy, but worked on certain aspects.
Considering he worked for a large insurer, where he was quite a senior figure I wondered why, or where he had the time. Even more laughable was that he admitted he had never kicked a ball in all his life, but he had been an amateur ref, a fact he liked to talk about.
He said he loved getting the free tickets for all the England games and other benefits. Occasionally he passed them on to his staff. All this was some 35 years ago, and as you regularly comment, nothing changes, amateur officials then and ditto today .
Look at FIFA, UEFA or Olympics, it has always been jobs for the boys.
You’re not going to push them out, each will protect their own. The only way I see is a dramatic decline in our own football status, somewhere between Albania, and Mongolia. We would all like to see former professional footballers holding important positions, but don’t hold your breath. We can write about it all we like, but in cocking a deaf ear is the one thing they are professional about.
