This week has been fun.
I’ve loved seeing Croatia outplay Spain.
Roy Keane told Ireland to play with balls against Italy. And they did exactly that.
Sure, it took them 85 minutes to score. That was because of shameless cheating by the Italians, and the ref refusing to give a clear penalty.
It’s lovely not to see England or talk about them.
It’s been bloody marvellous, actually.
Iceland scored early against Austria, who equalised after an hour.
That game was a very tight battle, like so many matches in the Group stages. Then a substitute scored a later winner, as we’ve seen in so many other games.
Arnor Traustason raced in at the far post to score a priceless winner in the 90th minute.
Their co-manager is Lars Lagerback, a worldly Swede.
He’s 67 and plans to retire but he’d be a perfect manager for England.
Far more suitable than Sven or Capello or Hodgson.
If England lose, the the FA should slip Lars a draft contract after the match.
OK, I do love Jurgen Klinsmann, who could put us on the right track. But Jurgen lives in California with his American wife.
Lagerback would understand us more quickly and do a really good job for a couple of years.
