Can Roy Hodgson’s England improve in the knock-out stages?

We won’t improve for two reasons.

England is run by the Football Association.

And Hodgson picks the team.

Like Sven, he’s had three tournaments in a job that requires the delivery of respectable failure.

Sven, we discovered, was an ultra-smooth con-man who knew very little about football.

But his players got him to three quarter-finals.

Unfortunately, Roy is too dim to realise that Dele Alli is our Aaron Ramsey, a goalscorer.

The Spurs kid is younger, bigger and more explosive than Ramsey, who scored after 11 minutes against Russia last night.

Dele Alli should have started.

But he didn’t and we drew 0-0 with Slovakia.

I’m still asking the same question I asked twice last week: Can we score in  open play?

Today is a beautiful sunny Tuesday and it’s one if those mornings where I’ve got to have a shave and a shower and rush out.

When I come back, I’ll write more and post it after lunch.
