From Adam Holder : protests and the future
Hi Myles,
Wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry at the pathetic protest last week.
I get the objective (I’m in my 10th year of wanting the Great Pretender to move on) but that is not the way to do it. It has no impact other than to damage the club.
The rest of the country just see Arsenal fans as buffoons.
If anyone wants AW out they have one option, and only one – stop going!
Stop giving the club the one thing they value, your money.
If the abstainers number in the thousands, something will happen pretty quickly. If they are in the hundreds, then we had better accept the fact we are in the minority and come to terms with it.
Having said that, I do wonder if getting rid of Wenger while Kroenke remains would be suicide, as I can’t see Silent Stan backing another manager to spend to the level everyone else would like.
Wenger’s successor may well have to operate within the same framework he does. I’m sure that’ll work out well.
Wenger is idealistic and stubborn, but he is also principled. I do wonder if he sticks around in part because he knows the Board have sold out and he’s doing his best to hold things together.
I do fear that life after AW will not be good, not because AW is irreplaceable (far from it from a footballing standpoint) but because Kroenke measures sporting success in dollars.
Myles says:
Kroeke’s is a disgusting silent billionaire landowner whose sports teams never win anything.
Kroenke is the core problem, Adam. He is an appalling owner.
Having said that, Wenger’s team lost 10,000 fans for the Thursday night game against West Brom and about 15,000 for the Norwich game.
Commentator Sam Matterface allegedly asked Wenger, “Do you realise you’ve got 20,000 people against you”.
Wenger’s abrasive reply was, “Have you counted them?”
These days, as we look at the bigger picture, we must take a longer view of Arsenal’s future.
Wenger will leave in 2017.
The problem is Stan Kroenke, a ghastly Yank who has no class and no ambition beyond making more money and owning more land.
Invisible and inaudible, Kroenke hides behind Wenger and wins nothing with any of his sports franchises.
He is, as Piers Morgan tweeted, the oligarch owner from hell.
Without a new owner, Arsenal cannot be a football club again.
