The best four players in the 0-0 at Wigan were Senderos, Bedntner, Melchiot and Kirkland.
Nothing wrong with what Arsenal did in the first half. Apart from Adebayor’s one-on-one miss in 42 seconds.
Second half, Gilberto faded. I’d taken Hleb off and put Van Persie on and hit it up to three big strikers because Wigan had taken Arsenal’s measure by then.
It worked against Aston Villa when Clichy crossed, Adebayor headed down and Bendtner equalised. But here Arsenal were playing 4-4-2 with two six foot four strikers but they didn’t cross the ball at all !
It’s frustrating watching a team that nearly scores. And it’s even more frustrating watching a team which ignores the obvious.
Only time will tell whether the JJB was where the league was lost. I thought it was a must-win game and a 1-0 victory and a four point lead.
It’s great to have Kolo Toure back. But, ironically, he has come back at a time when they don’t need him at centreback. Senderos has been playing very well and was outstanding against Heskey, who only got past him once.
Nicklas Bendtner played intelligently. Good positions, fine control, excellent passing – he looked like a top striker. Very unlucky to be booked by Rob Styles for that challenge on Koumas, where he won the ball.
Why take Bendtner off ?
