ANR reply to “Arsenal website rebels after 4-0 rout”

On Sunday NewsNow reported an article headlined “Arsenal website rebels after 4-0 rout?”.

It seems to be a very popular link as it has reached the summit of the top stories list on NewsNow.

It seems to have disappeared, can you please let us know what the story was about exactly? It’s killing me!

Please keep up the great work. Reading/checking ANR is part of my daily routine. Many thanks.
Hossein

Sorry about that, Hossein.

There was no story.

On Sunday morning Ian Grant had a technical problem with the website software.

He asked if I had the same problem. So I wrote a test headline and a few test words and pressed SUBMIT, to see if ANR would work from my computer, as it did not seem to be working from Ian’s.

When I did this on Sunday morning, I intended to leave it up there for five minutes, so that nobody except Ian Grant would see it.

But I got distracted by other things and left it up for too long. That was my first mistake.

Since the content of the few lines would be hard for a reader to understand, and might seem deliberately obscure, or even seem like a bad-tempered tease, I deleted the test piece completely from our system.

But when you do that, the link on NewsNow remains.

That was my second mistake.

I should have realised that and left the headline  – but rewritten the piece as an explanation, as I’m doing here.

So I have annoyed readers like you.

I’m genuinely sorry about that. My fault entirely.
