When Arsenal signed David Seaman, everything became possible.
When Nottingham Forest got Peter Shilton from Stoke, Forest won the league and two European Cups.
What did John Terry say? That Petr Cech is worth 10-12 points a season ?
AT LEAST.
Arsenal are top after a pulsating 3-3 draw at Anfield last night.
Leicester are second on goal difference after winning 1-0 at Spurs.
Roberto Firmino and Olivier Giroud got two goals each.
Firmino scored in 10, Ramsey equalised in 14, Firmino put Liverpool ahead again in 19, and then Giroud got a touch to a low corner that Mignolet and Liverpool should have defended much better.
The blundering Bodgan wasn’t even on the bench last night, and the flapping Mignolet will surely be replaced in the summer
In 55 Giroud scored his best goal for Arsenal, wrecking poor old Kolo Toure with a slick touch and turn to bury his left-foot shot past Mignolet.
That made it 3-2 to the Arsenal and the Spurs- Leicester game was still goalless.
By now the rain had turned to snow at Anfield and the drama was far from over.
In 66 Klopp brought on the lumbering Benteke for the excellent Milner, while Wenger replaced Joel Campbell, who had another fine game but was tiring.
Oxlade came on for him and that was risky. Sure enough, Oxy lost the ball in a deep area and Liverpool then scored in that phase of play after Benteke rose unchallenged to provide a big looping knockdown towards the far post. Sub Joe Allen, who had replaced Emre Can in 82, steered home a shot that the diving Cech managed to touch.
A genuine six-goal thriller.
I thought Liverpool would press and then Arsenal would pick them off, break and score.
But Walcott lost the ball stupidly in the rear third to give Liverpool an early chance to go ahead.
After a couple of quick passes, Firmino, who has been pitiful lately, scored in style.
Overall, Walcott had a shocker.
This was Firmino’s best game for Liverpool and that’s what a £29m striker should do more often.
Final score: Liverpool 3 Arsenal 3.
So Arsenal are above Leicester on goal difference. Both have 43 points.
In a close-fought game at the Lane, Kasper Schmeichel and Hugo Lloris made outstanding saves.
When Erik Lamela played Harry Kane into a typical Kane position, his shot hit the elbow of Schmeichel and bounced sharply and then came back off the crossbar.
In 83, Christian Fuchs took a perfect outswinging corner from the left and the unmarked Robert Huth placed a booming header beyond Lloris
In Manchester, Citeh were held to 0-0 by Everton, whose team contains enough talent to put them higher than 11th place.
John Stones somehow got away with a clear penalty for a challenge on Raheem Sterling in the box.
Leicester have only lost 2 of their 21 games, while Man City have lost 5 and Arsenal 4
Spurs are still fourth but if they don’t start scoring again, West Ham will definitely climb above them .
The Hammers have firepower, even without the injured Andy Carroll.
Football is about goals and players (especially goalkeepers).
PS Forget all talk about adidas wanting Messi and Guardiola at Man Utd.
Guardiola to City is a done deal.
Messi will play for Barcelona till he goes to Qatar.
