ANR comments on Arsenal/Mr Nice/Hunter Thompson

From Andy Pinker : Hunter S. Thompson

Hey Myles,

hope you’re all well….

Did I ever tell you my Hunter Thompson story from when I lived in Aspen?

As for Arsenal and Wenger….it’s getting too boring to even talk about.

Regards, Miami.

Myles says :

Does the story involves guns?

Arsenal has failed because it’s a one-man club.

Wenger has far too much power. It’s that simple.

Arsenal’s 9th PL game is at Everton on Sunday, October 22.

That will be a revealing match because Everton have not conceded a goal in their last four games.

Ronald Koeman will have bedded Gylfi Sigurdsson into his team by then. The most under-rated footballer in the Premier League.

From John Froud : Weird

Hi Myles,

I’m current on an extended holiday in Majorca having bought an apartment here last summer.

I had just finished reading the first chapter of a new book I downloaded to my Kindle and had paused to check email and also your most recent blog.

The book? Mr Nice!

Myles says :

It’s a book that’s lasted because there is only one Howard Marks. He used to rent out his house in Majorca.

From Balthazar :

I met Howard Marks once.

My school would have a notable speaker come in once a week for the older boys, politician, scientist, writer…lots of notable people. Howard was one of them, and definitely one of the best public speakers.

Looking back on it now, that was probably because his was a well-rehearsed and polished routine, that was how he made his living then.

One thing I am pretty confident about though is that his claims to have never hurt anyone are rubbish….you don’t go anywhere in a business with no recourse to the law (the official use of violence) without the threat and use of violence.

Certainly an interesting life he had.

Myles says:

Very true!  Howard must have been ruthless to still be alive.

He does have a schtick.

But he struck me as a charmer who is naturally gregarious. Very comfortable in any company and probably always has been. Westminster School would not have felt very foreign to him.
